3-2-1 Teaching Strategy

3-2-1 Strategy is a simple reflection or summarizing tool:

  • 3 things learned – students list 3 new facts/concepts.
  • 2 interesting things – students note 2 ideas they found interesting.
  • 1 question – students ask 1 question they still have.

Use:

  • As an exit slip to check understanding at the end of a lesson.
  • As a summarizing activity during or after a lesson.
  • Helps teachers assess comprehension and encourage reflection.

Example:
Topic: Animals in English class

  • 3 new words: elephant, giraffe, lion
  • 2 interesting facts: elephants have big ears, lions live in prides
  • 1 question: Why do giraffes have long necks?
